What does Sherpa consider a heavy item?

Sherpa considers an item 15 kilograms or over as a heavy item.

How should I handle heavy items to prevent injury?

To prevent injury, make sure you handle heavy items in a safe and proper manner. Use a trolley to move heavy items and practice safe lifting techniques.

NOTE: for some deliveries, such as alcohol with multiple items and boxes, a trolley is a mandatory piece of equipment and you may receive a warning for failing to utilise one.

What are safe lifting techniques?

Safe lifting techniques include:

  • Not lifting heavier than within your fitness level
  • Not attempting to lift by bending forward
  • Bending your hips and knees to squat down to your load, keeping it close to your body, and straightening your legs to lift
  • Never lifting a heavy object above shoulder level
  • Avoiding turning or twisting your body while lifting or holding a heavy object

What if I do not want to complete heavy item jobs?

If you do not wish to complete heavy item jobs, deselect the option in the daily checklist or account preferences, and you will not be shown these jobs.
