How do Wait Time Fees work?

  • Updated

If you have to wait at either the pick-up or drop off location, you will be reimbursed for this time. Wait time fees are calculated differently for single deliveries, regular and bulk rate runs. Here is a quick breakdown of how these are calculated based the situation:

  1. Single pick up deliveries (plus grocery surcharge if applicable)
  2. Regular runs (plus grocery surcharge if applicable)
  3. Bulk Rate runs

Single Delivery

You will be paid $2.34 (including GST) per 5 minutes you have to wait, after the initial first 10 minutes of waiting at either the pick-up or the delivery point.

Regular Runs

(For Bulk Rate runs, scroll down)
As there are multiple deliveries in a run, the rules are a little different:
  • If you have to wait at the pick-up location, the grace period changes from just 10 minutes to 10 minutes + 1 minute per additional delivery in the run:
  • For example: if there are 10 deliveries in the run, you will not be eligible for wait time fees until after 19 minutes (10mins for 1st delivery, 1 min for each of the 9 other jobs. 10+9 =19) of waiting
  • After the waiting grace period, you will be paid paid $2.34 (including GST) per 5 minutes.

Please note that if there are multiple pick-ups from a single location, wait time fees only apply to a single order.

Large Grocery Chain Surcharge

For both single deliveries and runs from a large grocery chain, a wait time fee surcharge applies on top of the the $2.34 per 5 minutes base fee:

Large chain grocery wait time surcharge (paid on top of the base fee) incl. GST
11 - 15 min $1.32
16 - 20 min $1.76
21 - 25 min $1.76
26 - 30 min $0.88
30+ min $0.00
All large grocery chain's wait times are capped at 30 min

Example 1: Single Large Chain Grocery job
You pick up delivery from a large grocery chain and you had to wait 14 min:
  • Total wait time: 14 min
  • Grace period: 10 min
  • 14 min - 10 min grace period = 4 min eligible wait time
  • Base wait time: 5 min wait time base rate applied = $2.34
  • Grocery surcharge: 11-15 min = $1.32
  • $2.34 (base )+ $1.32 (surcharge)= $3.66
  • you get paid $3.66 in wait time fees

Example 2: Single Large Chain Grocery job

You pick up delivery from a large grocery chain and you had to wait 27 min:
  • Total wait time: 27 min
  • Grace period: 10 min
  • 27 min - 10 min grace period = 17 min eligible wait time
  • Base wait time $2.34 * 4 intervals = $9.36
  • Grocery surcharge: 26-30 min = $ 0.88
  • $9.36 (base) + $0.88 (surcharge) = $10.24
  • you get paid $10.24 in wait time fees

Example 3: Large Chain Grocery 2-drop run
You pick up a 2-drop run from a large grocery chain and you had to wait 14 min:
  • Total wait time: 14 min
  • Grace period: 10 min + 1 min for additional drop: 11 min
  • 14 min - 11 min grace period = 3 min eligible wait time
  • Base wait time: 5 min wait time base rate applied = $2.34
  • Grocery surcharge: 11-15 min = $1.32
  • $2.34 (base )+ $1.32 (surcharge)= $3.66
  • you get paid $3.66 in wait time fees

Example 4: Large Chain Grocery 3-drop run
You pick up a 3-drop run from a large grocery chain and you had to wait 23 min:
  • Total wait time: 23 min
  • Grace period: 10 min + 2 min for additional drop: 13 min
  • 23 min - 13 min grace period = 10 min eligible wait time
  • Base wait time $2.34 * 2 intervals = $4.68
  • Grocery surcharge: 21-25 min = $1.76
  • $4.68 (base )+ $1.76 (surcharge)= $6.44
  • you get paid $6.44 in wait time fees

Bulk Rate Runs

  • If you have to wait at the pick-up location, you will be paid 5 minutes for the first delivery, and 1 minute for every other delivery in the run.

  • E.g. If there are 10 deliveries in the run, you will not be eligible for wait time fees until after 14 minutes (5mins for 1st delivery, 1 min for each of the 9 other jobs. 5+9 =14)
  • After the grace period, you will be paid paid $2.34 (including GST) per 5 minutes you have to wait.
